Acfas (the Francophone Association for the Advancement of Sciences) is pleased to open a call for applications for the Research Cooperation in the Canadian Francophonie Program. This program aims to encourage research collaborations between two French-speaking researchers (or teams) from different provinces or from a province and a territory, by offering mobility grants of up to $5,000 per year. The call is open until September 10.

Who is eligible as a visiting scholar?

Graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, research professionals and professors who are associated with a public university in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia or Quebec.

Who is eligible as a host environment for a visiting scholar?

Professors, research professionals, research chairs and research groups who are associated with a public university in a province or territory of Canada (all provinces and territories combined), as well as publishers of French-language or bilingual scholarly journals in a territory or province of Canada.

Four types of collaborative projects are eligible :

  1. Collaboration in a research project between two established researchers (research professionals, professors, postdoctoral fellows, etc.);
  2. Collaboration in a research project between an established researcher and graduate student;
  3. Internship of a graduate student in a research group, a research chair or a scholarly journal, to carry out various mandates that may go beyond research, for example the administration of the journal, linguistic revision, translation, etc.;
  4. Participation of a graduate student in a summer school in another province or territory.

Examples of projects funded in 2021:

  • Professors Yves Bergeron of the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue and Loïc D'Orangeville of the University of New Brunswick will combine their expertise to advance knowledge on the relative influence of climate and natural disturbances on the dynamics of isolated stands to the transition between temperate and boreal forests;
  • Sandrine Duval, a doctoral student at McGill University, will complete an internship with the Canada Research Chair in Minority Studies at the University of Waterloo with Professor Nicole Nolette. This internship will focus on the study of theatre in the Canadian Francophonie;
  • Marie-Pier Forest, a doctoral student at the Université du Québec à Rimouski, and Marie-Élaine Desmarais, a professor at the Université de Saint-Boniface, will collaborate in a research aimed at documenting universal pedagogy training through a professional learning community of elementary school teachers in a Franco-Manitoban minority context and to describe the influence of universal pedagogy on the well-being of teachers and their students.

Visiting scholars must identify a host environment before submitting their application, and attach to their application a letter of collaboration from this environment. Information on the application file (in French).

As a potential host environment, to help you identify a visiting scholar, you can post an internship offer on the program page (see details on the page) or post in the LinkedIn group.
