Canadian Cancer Society application forms now open

The Canadian Cancer Society is pleased to announce that the online application forms are now available for the upcoming Innovation Grants and Innovation to Impact Grants competitions. Please visit the Canadian Cancer Society research website for program and application information. Note: We anticipate a large volume of applications for these competitions. Please review program information carefully to ensure the work proposed fits the mandate of the program(s).

Innovation Grants:
These grants have been created to support unconventional (“high risk/high reward”) concepts, approaches or methodologies to address problems in cancer research. Budgets awarded may be up to $100,000 per year and a maximum of $200,000 per grant.

Please note the following:

  • The Canadian Cancer Society is pleased to announce a partnership with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research – Institute for Cancer Research to jointly fund Innovation Grants.
  • A special call for breast cancer research is included in this competition as a result of the merger of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation with CCS.
  • There is funding available for a meritorious application focused on uterine cancer as a result of a generous donation.

It is anticipated that up to 30 grants will be awarded in this competition.


Abstract registration deadline: December 15
Full application deadline: March 29 (Note that an abstract registration must be submitted in order to submit a full application)

Innovation to Impact Grants:

These grants are intended to support the further development of significant findings based on the goals originally explored through a funded CCS Innovation Grant or eligible CBCF Grant. Note: Only investigators with a funded Innovation Grant OR CBCF grant with a project end date between January 1, 2015 and July 31, 2018 are eligible for this program.  All applications must include details of the significant achievements from the previous grant, specifics on how the proposed work is a logical progression that builds on the previous grant and the potential of the work to impact cancer.

Budgets awarded may be up to $150,000 per year for up to 3 years, to a maximum of $450,000 per grant.

As a result of the merger of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation with CCS, a special call for breast cancer research is included in this competition.

Note: an eligibility review will be conducted and only successful applicants will be invited to submit a full application.

It is anticipated that up to 11 grants will be awarded in this competition.

Relevance review results: early February

Full application deadline: March 29 (Note that an abstract registration must be submitted and deemed relevant to this funding opportunity in order to submit a full application)

Travel Awards:

These awards are intended to defray the travel costs associated with making a scientific presentation as a first author or presenter at a conference, symposium r other appropriate professional meeting. PhD or MD/PhD students, and post-doctoral/medical/clinical fellows are eligible to apply.

It is anticipated that up to 10 Travel Awards will be awarded in each competition (30 awards per year).

All applications must be submitted through the online application system (EGrAMS) by 5p.m. EST on the deadline date. Submissions will not be accepted beyond these times.
