Canada Foundation for Innovation Update

Posted by Michelle Wood on April 14, 2014 in Announcements

Please see two announcements from CFI below.  Regarding the CFI progress reports (announcement #2), CFI researchers will receive an e-mail soon from Cynthia Sawler.

You will find below an update on the 2015 Innovation Fund competition and key information about the 2013-2014 CFI project progress reports.

1)      2015 Innovation Fund

March 28, 2014 was the notice of intent (NOI) deadline date for the 2015 Innovation Fund competition. CFI has received 349 eligible NOIs from 74 eligible institutions, requesting nearly $870M from the CFI.

In an effort to encourage collaborations amongst institutions, a list of all NOIs submitted to the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) for this competition has been posted on our website, http://www.innovation.ca/en/OurFunds/CFIFunds/InnovationFund. This list is published to encourage institutions that have similar proposals to consider potential collaborations or joint initiatives, where appropriate, to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of the infrastructure. To further this objective, the CFI may also draw attention to possible overlaps and synergies between institutions in the next few weeks. At the same time, the CFI will also provide some guidance to institutions about large and complex projects that are likely to require face-to-face meetings of expert committees and senior representatives of the institution(s).

2)      CFI progress reports

Mark your calendars: project progress reports launched
As of the first week of April, the 2013-2014 project progress reports (PPRs) and the operational status question are now accessible in CAMS. This allows twelve weeks to complete the PPRs, which are due to the CFI by June 30, 2014. To read our Report on Results and learn how we use this important data visit: http://www.innovation.ca/en/AboutUs/Evaluation/Reportresults. In an effort to maximize the value of the data collected through the PPRs, the CFI’s Evaluation and Outcome Assessment unit is pleased to support tailored summaries of PPR data for institutions, upon request.

New CAMS feature: ability to “delegate” PPR data entry
To assist project leaders with filling out their PPRs, the CFI is introducing a new data entry “delegation” feature in 2014. This will allow project leaders to give access to another individual with a CAMS account to enter data into the project leader’s PPR. It does not, however, give the individual access to the project leader’s dashboard. The project leader and institution will still be responsible for the PPR “complete” and “submit” functions through their CAMS dashboards, and for ensuring the completeness and accuracy of the data entered in their PPRs.

How does ‘delegation’ work?
The institution controls whether this feature is available to project leaders or not, and by default, it is turned off. Once turned on, it will remain on unless it is disabled. Liaisons may enable this feature for project leaders by accessing the delegation function through the left-hand menu in their institutional portal (under Project progress reports). Project leaders (or liaisons) may then assign or revoke delegation to a specific individual through the left-hand menu within the PPR webform. The delegation feature that is assigned to a specific individual lasts for only that reporting year.
