Notice to Dalhousie Canadian Foundation for Innovation Project Leaders

Posted by Maeghan Murphy on July 12, 2013 in Research News and Reports

The Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) is developing a listing of CFI research labs and facilities in an effort to foster collaborative initiatives and increase the use of CFI research infrastructure. It’s expected that the labs/facilities listed would interest other researchers and private and public sector members. Please see more information below from CFI.

If anyone at Dalhousie is interested in listing their CFI Lab/Facility on the CFI website, please contact Nancy.Hayter@dal.ca.

CFI Lab/Facilities Listing

The Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) is working on a new online initiative that will make it easier for businesses and interested research facilities across Canada to connect as a first step towards establishing possible research partnerships and collaborations.

Scheduled to launch in fall 2013, a new dedicated section of the CFI website will include a listing of research labs and facilities that are funded by the CFI or use CFI-funded infrastructure, and that are working with or are interested in working with the private and public sectors. It may also help academic researchers locate specialized equipment and facilities to advance their own work.

This initiative directly supports one of the CFI’s national objectives — to promote networks and collaborations with partners from academic, private and public sectors. The listing is meant to assist interested researchers and institutions wanting to:

•        establish or expand partnerships and collaborations with industry;
•        undertake contract research with the private and public sectors; and
•        optimize the use of CFI-funded infrastructure.

Please note that participation in this initiative is completely voluntary.

The format of this listing was developed based on a consultation last fall with a number of research administrators, tech transfer offices and business organizations. In recent weeks, CFI has developed a test site containing information on about 30 facilities. Here is an example of a sample entry.

CFI is now notifying all institutions of this initiative and the next phase – to gather content and build this into a robust, searchable listing.
