Staff & Other Costs


Staff costs

Over and above rental fee, plus Harmonized Sales Tax (HST)

Note: The number of staff used for each event is determined by the Technical Coordinator and House Manager according to their needs.

Technicians
3 minimum, for a minimum of 4 hours each:
  • $28.50 per hour. Meal break before 5 hours or meal penalty charged
  • Overtime at time and a half after 10 hours
Stagehands
As required, minimum 4 hours each:
  • $22.50 per hour. Meal break before 5 hours or meal penalty charged
  • Overtime at time and a half after 10 hours
Riggers
As required, minimum 4 hours each:
  • $38.00 per hour
House Manager
1 per show, on duty 1 hour before and 1 hour after show time:
  • $28.50 per hour
Ushers
Minimum 8 on duty, 1 hour before show time:
  • $15.50 per hour

 

Other costs

Note: All percentages below, except concessions, apply to the net amount. The net amount is defined as gross ticket sales minus the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) and Capital Improvement Fund (CIF) Surcharge.

HST:
  • 15% of base ticket price
CIF:
  • $1.50 per ticket printed
Box Office Fee:
  • The greater of 6% of net ticket sales or $200.00 minimum per performance, plus HST
Ticket Printing:
  • $.07 per ticket printed, plus HST
SOCAN Licence Fee:
  • 3% ticket sales (after tax) or $35.00 minimum, plus HST
Piano Tuning:
  • $90.00 (touchup $48.00 if required), plus HST
Concessions:
  • 20% net sales (gross sales minus HST), plus HST
Bar Services:
  • Exclusive to Arts Centre: Contact Bar Manager at: (902) 494-2667
Deposit:
  • $1,400.00 due upon signing contract

NOTE: All licensees for the building are required to obtain general liability insurance coverage in the amount of $2,000,000.00 inclusive, per occurrence. This insurance is mandatory and proof of insurance must be provided to the Dalhousie Arts Centre prior to the event.
