Workshop on Sustainable Approaches to Materials Research, Including Life Cycle Assessment

This Workshop will introduce materials researchers at all levels to concepts associated with sustainable approaches to materials research. Such concepts will include: elemental sustainability (resources and economic factors) and the possibility of elemental substitution; materials life cycle assessment and analysis; exergy; the role of legislation and standards; eco-informed materials selection.
The presentation format will include invited speakers in a workshop format, and carrying out life cycle assessments in small groups. The groups will present to the full audience on the second day, and the results will be discussed.
The Workshop is being held in the two days prior to the 99th Canadian Society for Chemistry (CSC) annual conference, also held in Halifax, Nova Scotia. See http://www.csc2016.ca/ for conference details and deadlines.
The Workshop registration fee is $100 for students, $150 for postdocs and $200 for others. Advanced registration is required and registration is limited.
