Four representatives of the Fish-WIKS research team will travel to New York City to conduct a side event during the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues. Principal Investigator, Dr. Lucia Fanning, Steering Committee member, Chris Milley, and Terry (Seit-cha) Dorward and Jade Owen, Community Liaison Coordinators from the West Coast and Arctic regions respectively, will be on site to present and lead an open discussion, “Sharing Experiences: Challenges and Opportunities in using Indigenous knowledge systems in resource management”. Key questions to guide the discussion are: Has there been much change in the use of Indigenous knowledge systems in decision making over the past ten years? Why do you think so? What lessons or best practices might we take from these examples that could be adopted at local, regional, national or international levels. The event takes place on May 2 at 1:15pm in the Amartya Sen Room, FF Building.
