The Dalhousie University Department of English Language Studies is dedicated to English language teaching and training in the areas of language education, English-medium instruction and internationalization of the curriculum.

Since 2010, the department has worked with thousands of students, professionals, teachers and faculty members at Dalhousie and worldwide to help them be successful at university, advance their careers, and develop their teaching practice.

The instructional team has been recognized locally and internationally for their innovative and responsive research, curriculum design, and pedagogical practice in the areas of English for Academic and Specific Purposes, English-medium instruction and internationalization of the curriculum.

Study Tours

We can create custom language programs for groups of students who would like to come to Dalhousie University on a study tour. ELS course content and format are tailored to your group's needs. General ELS, Academic English, and English for Specific Purposes such as engineering, tourism or marine science are also available. Accommodations and socio-cultural activities can be included in the program, as well.

Customized Training

The Department of English Language Studies can create customized language training courses for companies, university departments, or units focusing on English for business, or for different employment sectors. Language training programs can also be combined with optional technical or professional development training from other program areas in the Faculty of Open Learning & Career Development.
