Summer 2025 Student News

Alyssa

It’s been wonderful connecting with you all as the president of the Dal Physio Student Society for the Class of 2026.

~Alyssa Walsh

It somehow feels like no time and a long time have passed since forming the 2024/25 Dal Physio Student Society Executive Committee and becoming president! Now, our 3rd-year cohort is wrapping up our final academic semester, preparing to head out on our final placements, studying for our licensing exams, and some are enjoying their final weeks as Halifax residents before moving back home. Getting the opportunity to be a part of this class and exec as president is something I would not have imagined happening prior to returning to school, and it has been such a joy over the past year.

Working with my classmates and fellow executives, Abbey, Robin, and Jade, has been both fun and easy, which can’t be said for all teams. DPSS is truly a shared job, and everyone put in a lot of care and dedication to every plan and decision. So, I’m extending a huge thank you to them for all their hard work and guidance.

Getting to connect with my cohort, the first-year class, and the school faculty in a unique way has been eye-opening and a lot of fun. It’s a position that holds a lot of responsibility, but also a lot of privilege. I’m grateful for the conversations I’ve been able to be a part of, the connections and friendships I’ve gotten to help foster, and the perspectives I’ve been able to gain by getting to communicate with and learn from so many others.

On behalf of the DPSS 24/25 executive committee and the class of 2026, we’d like to extend our sincerest thank-you to the faculty, staff, administrators, guests and mentors who have helped shape us into the physios we will be. Your time and effort are appreciated beyond measure!

A huge warm welcome to the 2nd-year cohort and upcoming executives. All of your incredible energy and passion are evident; we know you’re going to do amazing things! To the incoming 1st years, we can’t wait to see and hear about your journeys!

It’s been wonderful connecting and sharing with you all as the president of the Dal Physio Student Society for the Class of 2026. Thank you for joining us!

Meet your new PT Student Society Members

Nikhil

Hi everyone! My name is Nikhil and I’m the President of the Dalhousie Physiotherapy Student Society. I’m a proud West Coaster (West Coast Best Coast), and I graduated from UBC with a Bachelor of Kinesiology in 2018.  I have always been interested in how people move in a rehabilitation sense, and having been involved in sports growing up, I naturally gravitated towards Physiotherapy. I grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia and have been living in Halifax for just over a year now!

Along with school, I work as a teaching assistant in the School of Health and Human Performance at Dal. Along with physio, I love hiking, backcountry backpacking, skiing, surfing, running, swimming in glacier-fed lakes, camping, and travelling! A fun fact about me is that I lived in Australia for 6 months!

Physiotherapy School has been an amazing experience. My cohort has been an amazing support system, making this experience truly meaningful. I can’t wait to meet you all, and please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions or just want to chat!

Madi

Hi Everyone. My name is Madi, and I’m the Vice President of the Dalhousie Physiotherapy Student Society. I also hold the Clinical Education rep and am one of the Clothing reps for the PT society. I’m from Tracadie, PEI and graduated from UNB with a BSc Honours in Kinesiology in 2023 before moving to Halifax that same year. Before starting PT school, I worked as a Physio/OT Assistant for three years, which really confirmed my passion for the field of physiotherapy! Outside of school, I love exploring new coffee shops in Halifax, running, going to the beach, and spending time with friends. If you ever have any questions, feel free to reach out—I’m always happy to help. Can’t wait to meet you all soon!

Ashley

Hi everyone, and welcome incoming class! I'm Ashley, and I'm excited to be your secretary for the Dalhousie Physiotherapy Student Society for the 2025/2026 academic year. I graduated from Dal in 2024 with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and then returned to Dal for a Master's in Physiotherapy. I am originally from Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, where I grew up. Outside of academics, I enjoy staying active. I love most outdoor activities and sports, but I particularly enjoy playing rugby and going for runs. In my downtime, I enjoy some good weekend thrifting, exploring different parts of the city, and discovering the best local eats. I'm thrilled that you'll all be joining us in the Fall. This program is incredibly rewarding - not just in what you will learn but also in the meaningful friendships and connections you will make! Don't hesitate to reach out or say hello!

Audrey

Hey everyone! My name is Audrey, and I’m excited to be your treasurer for the Dalhousie Physiotherapy Student Society for 2025–2026. I’m originally from Moncton, New Brunswick, and completed my Honours BSc in Kinesiology at the University of Moncton last year. In my spare time, I love staying active—whether that’s running, spending time with friends and family, reading, or enjoying a good coffee. This program has already helped create so many amazing friendships, and I can’t wait for you all to become part of this community! Feel free to reach out at any point if you have any questions/concerns.
