Summer 2022 Student News
By Katie Broussard
A new school year is right around the corner, and the Class of 2023 is preparing to welcome the Class of 2024 to campus for the first time. With a new school year comes a new student executive to represent the Dalhousie Physiotherapy Student Society. These positions have been filled by Christine Barnes (President), Hannah Taylor (Vice President), Effie Powell (Secretary), and Hailey Adams (Treasurer). This team will take the lead on orientation events and making sure that the new students feel welcomed to the school. Specific events are yet to be confirmed, however, the team has been working hard bringing all the pieces together for the end of August/beginning of September!
In addition to planning the upcoming orientation, the Class of 2023 will be returning from their first round of 6-week placements to be back on campus in August. They will be beginning their final course in the area musculoskeletal physiotherapy when they arrive, before they start a new set of courses come September. These fall courses will shift focus to neurotherapeutics and scientific inquiry, which will go until Christmas time.
The Class of 2022 have completed all course-based work for the remainder of their degrees and each student will take part in final clinical placements this summer/fall. These placements will wrap up before Christmas time, and students will officially walk across the stage at convocation in the spring of 2023. To commemorate the hard work and dedication that went into the program over the last 2 years, a grad reception was held for the Class of 2022 at the end of June. This event allowed for the class, family/friends, and the school faculty/staff to enjoy each other’s company while celebrating the completion of in-class course work.
The Class of 2022 executive team would like to wish the Classes of 2023 and 2024 success as they continue their academic journeys. The best of luck to the Class of 2022 on finishing their final placements and heading out into the beginning of their careers. To keep updated on what is to come for the Dalhousie Physiotherapy student body, watch out for the next edition of PT Matters!

Hi everyone, my name is Christine and I’m the President of the Dalhousie Physiotherapy Student Society. I graduated from my undergrad in 2017 at Western University in Kinesiology with a minor in Rehabilitation Sciences and then came to Dal to continue my education in Physio. I am from Ontario, from a city outside of Toronto called Newmarket. I love being active and being outside, spending time with friends and family, and sitting down with a good book. I also have loved getting to experience East Coast living firsthand and am loving exploring Halifax. I am so looking forward to meeting you all and am here for anything you might need throughout your first year or at any time. Can’t wait to get started! |

Hi, my name is Hailey and I am the Treasurer of the Dalhousie Physiotherapy Student Society. I am from a small rural Nova Scotia community near Yarmouth, called Pubnico. I completed my undergrad in Kinesiology at Dal and then decided to stay at Dal for another 2 years to continue my education in physiotherapy. During my time at Dal, I have volunteered as an athletic trainer for Dal's track and field and cross country teams, as well as the University of King's college soccer team. I like to occupy my free time with hiking, reading, photography, and watching Netflix. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you and am happy to help if you have any questions about Dal, Halifax, or classes! |
