Spring 2016 Student News

By: Jodie McGill, Past-President of Dalhousie Physiotherapy Student Society (Class of 2016)

Last week of classes? What do you mean last week of classes? I can guarantee this has been on at least 70 per cent of the graduating class’s mind. Where did this term go? The first years are dispersed across the Atlantic provinces on their very first clinical placement and second years can be found practicing for the CCE or studying module 8 at the CHEB.

This semester flew by but many exciting events have led us to this point. First off, we held the annual Physiotherapy Ball at the Westin in March. Drew Stratton and Harrison McIver knew how to keep us laughing the whole evening as our emcees. The first year class entertained us with a hilarious rendition of ‘The Hunger Games’, redone as the ‘The OSCE Games’. The second year class played on the idea of ‘Footloose’ and surprised all of the guests at the ball with a flash mob. The evening was quite a success: good food, great dancing, and even better company. Thank you to Sam Morrison and Emily Stinson for all of their hard work organizing this amazing event.

We also held the annual Wildcat Cup first year vs. second year showdown at the beginning of April. Although the first year clan dominated in soccer baseball, the Class of 2016 prevailed to take home the coveted Wildcat Cup for a second year in a row. It was a great afternoon filled with stiff competition, laughs, and near broken ceiling tiles.

The end of the school year means a transition from one council to the next. I would like to welcome Brandon Warren (President), Sam Frenette (Vice President), Josiane Bourque (Treasurer), and Erica Linde (Secretary) as the Physiotherapy Council for next year.

Finally, the class of 2016 is beginning to feel the blues as our time together is coming to an end. However, we are very excited to be reunited in June for Research Day and our grad getaway as well as in October for Grad Ball and Convocation.
