The academic year has come to an end for the first year students, who are off on their first clinical placement. The second year students are realizing how close we are to the finish line. Only final exams, a research proposal defense, 12 weeks of clinical placement, and some national exams stand between us and our October convocation. Ok, so we still have a ways to go!
The winter semester was one for the books in terms of storm days at Dalhousie. Unfortunately for the second year students, we were off on placement during the winter and experienced the joys of realizing that hospitals are always open. Once the first and second year students were reunited in mid February, we made sure to make up for lost time. We had our annual PT Ball at the Westin hotel, organized this year by Natasha Buckle and Chauntelle Melong. It was a huge success, MC royalty Caitlyn Dunphy and Chad Cameron kept the students, staff and faculty entertained through the evening. The first years stepped up and produced a hilarious video that included several on point faculty impersonations. The second year students decided to pay homage to the upcoming 50th Anniversary and made physiotherapy themed heritage minutes. Oh, and everyone looked fabulous.

We had a day of athletics with the WildCat Cup, the annual sports competition between the first and second year students. The sports included were soccer, dodgeball, floor hockey and basketball. Unfortunately for the second year students, we were outmatched by the first year giants. Still, a great time was had by all and most importantly, no injuries! Another sporting event organized by students was the annual Physiotherapy Foundation of Canada 5km fundraiser at Point Pleasant Park. Unbelievably, the original date of March 29th was cancelled due to snowfall and had to be rescheduled for later in April. Luckily the weather did improve and a total of $760 was raised!

Last by not least, elections were held for the 2015-2016 Dalhousie Physiotherapy Student Society executives. We are pleased to welcome President Jodie McGill, Vice President Michelle Baker, Treasurer Matthew Ward and Secretary Kaitlyn Purcell. We have no doubt that they’ll be successful in their roles next year and as they welcome the Class of 2017.
