The fall of 2014 has been a busy one for the MScPT students. The first year students have been busy adjusting to their new home in the Forrest Building, while the second year students are excited to be back after having spent time out on placement in the ‘real world’. The new student council, consisting of Maddy Raymond, Carolyn Pridham, Adam Lomond and Emily Nguyen are excited to take on their roles for the Dalhousie Physiotherapy Student Society. Our group was hard at work over the summer finishing research literature reviews and in our spare time, organizing events for the incoming students.
Both the first and second year students bonded over the orientation activities that took place in September. Things got started with campus tours followed by a Meet and Greet, where first year MScPT and MScRRPT students met their fellow classmates and second year students had a chance to catch up, after spending months apart. Other activities included trivia, a boat cruise, scavenger hunt, potlucks, an overnight rafting trip, and a friendly evening of fun games and competition versus the Occupational Therapy students. While it was just friendly competition, we felt it was important to add that the Physiotherapy students cleaned up in the wins department for the majority of events. Capping off the first week of classes, the four Atlantic Provincial Physiotherapy Associations sponsored a pizza party for the faculty and students, giving the new students a chance to get to know their Professors and squeeze in a free meal!
Now that the students have been properly oriented to Dalhousie Physiotherapy, it’s time to look ahead to the many fun events to come, starting with For the Health of It. The second year students have their work cut out for them as the bar has been set high from previous years. This year, Physiotherapy is looking to take the title once again to complete a possible ‘Three-Peat’ victory. Fundraising efforts are already underway. The student society will be sure to keep you updated!
