A Festive First Semester Update from Y1 and 2!

by Alyssa Walsh, contribution from Nikhil Hirani

It's hard to believe the first semester is almost complete, and the holiday spirit is bubbling up all around - our Holiday Spirit Week helped with that. Dressing up in festive attire and giving donations to the food bank provided the motivation required for the final push to the end of the semester, which will mark four months into the First Year's PT journey and the last few days on campus for the Second Years until we return from our third placements in March! (Click to see the Holiday Spirit Week Photo Gallery).

In addition to the busy semester, we had the first-year representative election. There were many positions to fill, and everyone was eager to get started with exciting initiatives!

The class of 2027 has shared that it has been an extremely difficult yet enjoyable semester. From their class rep, Nikhil:

"We all remember sweating before our first OSCE and making awkward small talk at our orientation. It is hard to believe it's only been a few months, and even harder to believe how much we have learnt and how well we have meshed as a cohort. Through this semester, we have been able to experience lots of hands-on experience, including introductory Cardiorespiratory and MSK assessments, learning about gross anatomy in the cadaver lab, and much more. We have also been able to bond with our cohort through orientation events such as axe throwing and pizza up at Citadel Hill. It has been a great experience meeting people from all over the country with different backgrounds and experiences!"

The second years have been chipping away at our neuro-packed semester, beginning our research projects, and looking forward to applying many newly learned neuro and MSK skills on placement in the New Year.

We're also planning a PT job fair in the early Spring for second-year students to meet with interested recruiters. Stay tuned for more details!

While the PT journey is not easy, it's fulfilling. Both classes enjoy the challenge and the friendships that make it all the better.

The class of 2026 and 2027 are wishing everyone a seamless finals season and wonderful, restful holidays!
