Winter 2017 Student News

Toy Story skit members

With the fall semester coming to a close, the Class of 2018 has returned to the Forrest Building one semester older and somewhat wiser ready to tackle their musculoskeletal studies. Meanwhile, the Class of 2017 has spread across the Atlantic Provinces, Canada and even internationally for their current placements. I'm certain every member of the class is putting their knowledge gained this past semester to good use all while having a little fun at the same time. Now before looking what's to come this upcoming Winter,  it's time for the TSN recap of this past.

  • Although Physiotherapy didn't come home with the elusive five-peat from this year's, "For The Health Of It" competition we did manage to win for most funds raised! Physiotherapy raised nearly $16,000 going towards Mobile Outreach Street Health Services or MOSH for short. Congratulations to our OT neighbours on their win this year.
  • Some of our fundraisers included: the annual "Pie your Prof" which saw some professors and students leave with a not so sweet taste in their mouth, an 80's workout night- where we all put on our best Michael Jackson dance moves and Wine Survivor where families, students and faculty battled for immunities, survival and wine of course! Huge shot-out to the FTHOI steering committee consisting of Holly Patterson and Gerianne Rowe for putting the amazing "Toy Story" skit together and to Mairi Simonds and Kaitlin Murphy our Fundraising reps who worked tirelessly towards our fundraising efforts!
  • The men of physiotherapy also had some fundraising of their own planned with the annual "Movember" charity taking place. Although, the halls of the Forrest building smelled of 'Just for Men' the moustache-bearing men managed to raise nearly $800 towards men's health. Just as the moustaches were shed the class of 2017 put on a delicious Christmas themed potluck for both classes to enjoy- complete with ugly X-Mas sweaters and Christmas tunes to get us all in the  Holiday spirit!

  • Now that we're caught up on our busy fall semester it's time to look into what's in store for both classes. Firstly, the Class of 2017 will be returning from their placements in mid February eagerly waiting to start our final semester and looking forward to some intramural action. Secondly, the glamorous PT Ball is just around the corner! A night of delicious food, bad jokes and sweet dance moves that I know we are all looking forward too! Finally, the annual "Wildcat Cup" a battle of athletics between first years and second years- my money is on the second years, but I may be biased.

Until then I'm looking forward to some more adventuring in the Scottish Highlands all while looking out for Nessie of course!
