Winter 2016 Research Update

By: Derek Rutherford, PhD, PT

From students to faculty, the research productively here in the School of Physiotherapy has been well paced over the past few months. We have had four MSc Rehabilitation Research thesis defences, one Physiotherapy student research group submit their work to the Physiotherapy Research Foundation's Ann Collins Whitmore Competition and a host of Student and Faculty publications and abstract acceptances to scientific conferences. You will find information pertaining to these successes below.

MSc Rehabilitation Research

Thesis Defenses

Ross Story (MSc RR – supervisor: Dr. Shaun Boe)

Title: Using Machine Learning to Improve Motor Imagery Neurofeedback

Peter Stillwell (MSc RR – Supervisor: Dr. Katherine Harman)

Title: Barriers and Facilitators to Prescribed Exercise Adherence in Chiropractic Patients with Non-Specific Chronic Low Back Pain: A Focused Ethnography

Kristen Osterling (MSc RR – Supervisor: Dr. Gail Dechman)

Title: Establishing Accessory Muscle Activation in Healthy Individuals during a Graded Exercise Test

Aishwarya Kamat (MSc RR – Supervisor: Dr. Cheryl Hubley-Kozey)

Title: Determining the Association Between Knee Muscle Strength and Varus Thrust in Knee Osteoarthritis

Physiotherapy Student Research

Caitlyn Dunphy, Adam Lomond and Sarah Casey have submitted their MScPT research to the 2016 Physiotherapy Research Foundation Ann Collins Whitmore Student Competition. The Physiotherapy Research Foundation holds this competition each year in preparation for Congress, where each entry level physiotherapy program in Canada can submit one student paper.  This is the first entry from Dalhousie University since the entry level MScPT program began. Way to go!!
