Fall 2019 Research Update
Forward by Derek Rutherford
In line with our strategic plan (2016-2021); in part built from a growing focus on increasing our capacity for scholarly inquiry in the School of Physiotherapy, we are striving to establish a solid research foundation for the future. Successes have included, two world-class research laboratories located in the Forrest Building, the greatest compliment of MSc Rehabilitation Research students since this program's inception and close to half the School of Physiotherapy faculty supervising or co-supervising PhD students, most from the newly created PhD in Health program in the Faculty of Health.
Over the summer, we welcomed two new faculty members to the School of Physiotherapy. Dr. Scott Kehler and Dr. Olga Theou. Dr. Theou is the School of Physiotherapy’s first Canada Research Chair appointment; a Tier II chair in Physical Activity, Mobility and Healthy Aging. While Drs. Kehler and Theou bring distinctly different programs of research and potential both within and without the MScPT program, both individuals bring a commonality to our programming focused in Frailty and Healthy Aging. You can read more about these individuals throughout this and subsequent newsletters from your School of Physiotherapy. Please see below for a list of scholarly outputs from the School of Physiotherapy since the last Newsletter.
