2014 Fall Professional Development Opportunities:

Our fall events calendar features many knowledge translation opportunities that reach beyond the walls of our classroom, engaging our clinical and alumni communities near and far.

Please check out our fall Physiothreapy Matters Seminar Series, a bi-weekly seminar series (running from September 10 to November 19) open to the clinical community both in-person and via webcast (see the website for how to join on-line!). This fall’s line-up includes local and international, as well as professional and inter-professional perspectives.

The Department of Psychology & Neuroscience invites you to attend a guest lecture on Tuesday, October 7 at 11:30 a.m. (Room: LSC 332) entitled “Regeneration in the Central Nervous System - A retrospective” by Dr. Albert Aguyo (McGill University).

CPA Congress 2015

CPA Congress 2015 has been confirmed for Halifax, June 18-21st 2015! We are thrilled to collaborate with the CPA on the 2015 Local Flavour Night (hint: think East Coast Kitchen Party!). Dal alumni in attendance are encouraged to visit our booth for more great give-aways, door-prizes, and updates on our 50th Anniversary celebrations!

Dalhousie’s School of Physiotherapy was well represented at the 2014 Canadian Physiotherapy Association Congress in Edmonton this past June. Please visit the School’s Congress 2014 Wrap-Up for event pictures and highlights!

We were fortunate to have several MScPT students in attendance at the 2014 Congress, with four receiving financial support from the School's Alumni Fund for their travel to Edmonton. Here is what our students had to say about what Congress 2014 meant to them:

“It was great attending Congress as a student. Not only did I get to learn lots about the physiotherapy profession, the CPA, and the latest waves in assessment and treatment techniques, but I also had the opportunity to meet nationally recognized PT's and to learn from them one-on-one in informal contexts. I was elected to the executive committees for two Divisions, and have been continuing to learn lots about PT through this ongoing connection to the CPA. Thanks so much to the School of Physiotherapy for helping students create these connections through its Congress bursaries.” [Jesse Robson, Class of 2014 and recipient of the CPA’s 2014 Helen Saarinen Rahikka Student Leadership Award]

“It was such a wonderful opportunity to be able to attend this year’s CPA National Congress. As a second year student about to enter into the working world, it was a fantastic way to network with other students and working physiotherapists, and to hear about their experiences and soak in all of their advice. This was my first time at Congress, and it was exciting to be able to see first-hand the extensive range of research presentations, speakers and product demonstrations that are available to take in. Congress is an ideal opportunity to network with colleagues and get up to date on the latest in our profession. I’m looking forward to attending again this year!” [Camille Cramm, Class of 2014]

“CPA Congress 2014 in Edmonton was an amazing experience for me as a developing professional in the field of physiotherapy. Attending congress allowed me to network with physiotherapists from across the country in both professional and social settings, and to stay informed on some of the latest research in the field. As a new grad, it was inspiring to see so many people who were passionate about their careers in Physiotherapy. I am very grateful to have had this opportunity and I look forward to attending CPA Congress 2015 in Halifax, while also celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Dalhousie School of Physiotherapy!” [Meghan MacLeod, Class of 2014]
