February 2014 Events

Physiotherapy Matters:

This fall the Physiotherapy Matters Seminar Series featured a range of topics and guest speakers, each as unique and interesting as the next, and each translating relevant knowledge to students, faculty, and members of the clinical community. From the point of view of the rehabilitated, to interprofessional collaborations both here and abroad, to current research implications in clinical practice.

The Winter 2014 line-up begins February 26th, and is equally as impressive and wide-ranging. Featured guest speakers include faculty members, clinicians, a former Lieutenant Governor, and a young man undergoing rehabilitation for a spinal cord injury.

If you can’t attend in person, most of our seminars are now webcast live, and recordings will be made available from our website to watch at your convenience. Please see our Physiotherapy Matters Seminar Series page for the full line-up and list of previously recorded seminars.

50th Anniversary Celebrations – the lead-up to 2015:

In 2015 the School of Physiotherapy will celebrate 50 years since the inaugural class graduated in 1965 and we would like your opinion on how to mark this milestone.

In early 2013 a group of School of Physiotherapy alumni, faculty, administrators and a member of the University External Relations team met to brainstorm ideas for the 50th Anniversary in 2015.  The discussion took on four main areas of focus:

i.      Establishing an active and engaged alumni association and body;

ii.     Providing knowledge translation opportunities to alumni;

iii.   Enhancing scholarship funding for MSc Physiotherapy and MSc Rehabilitation Research (Physiotherapy) students;

iv.    Holding an annual Homecoming/Convocation event, with a keystone celebratory event in 2015.

Following this inaugural discussion, a representative steering committee was struck composed of School alumni ranging in graduation years and areas of physiotherapy practice, a school faculty member/alumni, student representatives, and school administration in an ex-officio capacity (Director, Administrator, and Communications Assistant).

The mandate of the 2015 Steering Committee is to provide opportunities to engage alumni to celebrate the 50th anniversary, to enhance alumni and the School of Physiotherapy’s profile, and to provide a legacy through scholarships and the establishment of an alumni association to foster reunions, knowledge exchange and annual student/alumni events.

This can only be done with the support of our alumni. The 2015 Steering Committee needs and values your input.

Could you please take a few minutes to respond to 3 questions in an on-line survey to tell the Steering Committee your wishes for 2015 celebrations?
