Dr. Derek Rutherford
Interim Director

I would like to extend a very heart felt thank you to Dr. Lynn Shaw for taking the role of Interim Director of the School over the past 3 years - we wish you success as you take on your new role as Director of the School of Occupational Therapy at Western University.

Happy Summer everyone! For the first time in a few years, I’m really feeling like “Happy” and “Summer” can belong together. I hope this newsletter finds everyone well, safe, healthy and truly having a happy summer. I’ll take this time now to reintroduce myself as Interim Director of your School of Physiotherapy. In 2018, I first introduced myself as Interim Director, but a lot has changed since that time, and I would like to extend a very heart felt thank you to Dr. Lynn Shaw for taking the role of Interim Director of the school over the past 3 years. Thank you Lynn and we wish you success as you take on your new role as Director of the School of Occupational Therapy at Western University as of January 1, 2023.

The School of Physiotherapy is in a very good place, brought on by the hard work of the staff, faculty, clinical partners, our students and the optimism and a renewed sense of community as we transition from the difficult years of managing the COVID 19 pandemic. We appreciate all the support from our clinical partners, alumni, the University and Faculties of Health and Graduate studies as we position ourselves for continued excellence. Our mission is to educate physiotherapists and scholars who excel; inspire through research and discovery that advances knowledge and practice; and improve the health and wellness of the diverse communities we serve, through collaboration and innovation.

Over the coming year we are looking forward to re-connecting and building new relationships to support a sustainable and inclusive platform for the success of our academic programming in the School of Physiotherapy. Our graduate students are interested in making a difference in the health and wellbeing of those who seek their guidance. Whether through research in our MSc Rehabilitation Research degree or PhD in Health degree options, or through our entry-to-practice physiotherapy degree option (MScPT), I am really excited to see what the future holds for the School of Physiotherapy and its alumni.

This newsletter is filled with accomplishments, successes, and genuine good cheer. We are hoping that you take some time to relax and peruse the great content of this newsletter. If you ever have any ideas on ways your School of Physiotherapy can assist in connecting, building community among our many stakeholders, please never hesitate to reach out, even if for a quick chat. We look forward to many great adventures in the future.
