KELLY BANG MEMORIAL LECTURESHIP NOMINATION INVITATION

Kelly Bang Nomination Invite

The School of Occupational Therapy is pleased to share this call for the Fall 2022 Kelly Bang Memorial Lectureship. This award was established in memory of Kelly Bang by her family to honour those whose advocacy, teaching, practice and research advance opportunities for women and/or marginalized adults learning to live in their communities. We are actively seeking individuals and/or small groups of members from the community to give this public lecture on campus in Halifax or via livestream this fall.

For this fall lectureship we are looking to receive nominations by May 31st, 2022. We encourage nominations for community groups as well as occupational therapists or other professions who work within the community that can inspire others with their message.  Please see the nomination form to find out more information on the lectureship and make your nomination.

THE ART OF COMMUNITY

During pre-pandemic days, the School of Occupational Therapy faculty and staff met together for a “Retreat Day”.  As a collective development activity, the group was invited to join local artist Shelley Mansel in creating a piece of art that promotes discussion about: the importance of working within communities as a profession and as researchers; and what it means to be involved in promoting occupations in community life.

Following a short informative session on the meaning and use of colour, colleagues were organized into groups with paint, canvas, and brushes and set to work collaboratively to complete this painting.

Creating art together promoted a connectedness and sense of belonging among the School of Occupational Therapy team. The activity reinforced the bond and commitment to supporting each other as we work together to educate new therapists and conduct research that matters in society.

The art now hangs in the lobby entrance of the Forrest Building to remind us of the art, and value, of community building.
