Internships

Learning career skills before you graduate

Students in the School of Health and Human Performance don't have to wait till they're in the job market to think about how they'll fit into the workplace. Through our internships and practicums, students in all four of our programs have the opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge - and learn new skills - in a real-world work environment.

Health Promotion

In the fourth year of the Health Promotion program, our students spend 14 weeks doing an internship. These are generally full-time placements during the final term. However, students may request to do the internship on a part-time basis over the entire school year.

Kinesiology

The BSc Kinesiology offers students the opportunity to do a practicum. During the practicum, you'll work at an outside organization under the supervision of a qualified mentor. While a minimum of 25 hours must be spent on the practicum, many students put in many more hours on site - to learn additional job skills or simply because they enjoy it.

Recreation Management

In the fifth year of the Recreation Management program, our students spend 14 weeks on an internship (note: student's who entered the program in September 2018 and onward will be required to do a 16 week internship). These are generally full-time placements during the final term; however, students may request to do the internship on a part-time basis over the entire school year.

Therapeutic Recreation

The internship opportunity in this program is very similar to that in Health Promotion - a 16-week experience done in an organization of the student's choosing.
