Program format (100% online)

To obtain the Certificate in Project Management – 100% Online, you must successfully complete all five courses within a two-year period starting with Project Management Fundamentals. Providing prerequisites are met, it is also possible to take more than one course concurrently, if you can commit the time. Each course is delivered over 6-10 weeks. The final capstone course, Applied Project Management, is a team project.

The curriculum for the UBC Certificate in Project Management online program follows the standards and principle set by the Project Management Institute (PMI)® in their Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide). It is comprised of five courses including a capstone course involving a team project. Covering processes, leadership and teamwork, the program is designed to provide a comprehensive review of the knowledge base needed to build a successful Project Management career.

Through instruction, collaboration, discussions and team assignments, you will develop your understanding of key project management concepts and acquire tools and techniques that will serve to enhance your performance as project manager or leader.

Learning format

The course material includes a detailed explanation of the concepts and terminology of project management and how to apply the appropriate methods to different situations. Participants are provided with templates, tools and techniques to use for their project management activities and through online collaboration, blogs, discussions and team work, work through a variety of individual and team assignments.

Who should take this program

The Certificate in Project Management is designed for aspiring and experienced project managers, as well as project team leads and team members wanting to expand their professional competencies to include the knowledge and skills that allow them to plan, participate, and/or execute projects. The program is relevant to those working in most industries including the high-tech, corporate, education, government, and small business sectors. This program is not intended as a PMP exam preparation course.

Program participants must have, at minimum, a high school diploma, three years of work experience or a combination of relevant work experience and education, and fluency in the English language before entering the program. While work experience is not strictly interpreted as project management experience, some experience in this area is encouraged.

Program fees and schedule

The total registration fee for 100% online program is $6,995 CAD ($1,250 - $1,995 CAD for each course). A declaration fee of $200 is also required. The $200 declaration fee is payable upon acceptance into the program. All other course fees are paid on a course-by-course basis.

Books: Books for the Project Management Online courses are not included in the tuition fees. Students are responsible for purchasing their own books from either online book sellers, local book stores or online publishers. Books are mandatory and others are recommended in order to complete online assignments and readings.

Note: Fees are based on the current academic year and are subject to change. No deferral of the non-refundable deposit or program fees is allowed. Text and materials related to courses may constitute an additional cost. There is no fee to submit an application form.

An admissions committee reviews program applications, and individuals are advised in writing as to whether they have been accepted into the program.
