Postdoctoral Fellow Position – Functional Foods

Dalhousie University invites applications from qualified highly-motivated candidates for a full-time, one-year term postdoctoral position in Functional Foods

Responsibilities: The postdoctoral fellow will be conducting an industry-involved Mitacs-funded research project on the development and assessment of functional food ingredients from selected food sources. The developed ingredients will be assessed for anti-inflammatory and immune-enhancement effects using multiple experimental model systems, including cultured mammalian cells and mice. Investigations will also be extended to understand the biologically active compounds of the ingredients and their potential cellular mechanisms of bio-efficacy.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in biochemistry, food chemistry, or related discipline within the last five years. They will also have demonstrated prior experience in working with cell cultures, handling experimental mice, and immunohistochemistry-based assays. Also, experience with natural product chemistry and statistical analysis is an asset.

Location:  The primary location of the research will be at the Department of Plant, Food, and Environmental Sciences at the Faculty of Agriculture (Agricultural Campus, Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada) under the supervision of Dr. Vasantha Rupasinghe.  It is also required to conduct a 4-month experiment involving mice at the Faculty of Medicine (Halifax campus, Nova Scotia, Canada).

Period: 1 Year Term, anticipated possible start date as early as June 15, 2021

Annual stipend: $40,000-45,000 CAD per year (plus benefits)
