Global Education Opportunities ‑ Summer 2019

Dal AC international is continuously working to create opportunities for all students at Dal AC. As a result, 40+ fully funded or partially funded global education opportunities are available this year. Some of them are summer course with credit, some internships and some exchange opportunities.

Please check following information and application links to apply for the opportunities best suits your need and interest. Please note that deadline for all these opportunities is Saturday, February 9, 2019.

Courses Abroad (Partially Funded)

Tropical Agriculture Summer Course at Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University (FAFU) in China:

Description – This program is held at Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University (FAFU) where students will learn about Tropical, Subtropical Agriculture and Chinese culture/language. Students will enroll in IAGR 3000 Tropical Agriculture (A) course and attend lectures while in China. Students will also partake in touristic activities in Fujian and Beijing with the opportunity to visit sites like the Wuyi Mountains, the Forbidden City and the Great Wall of China.

When – 3 weeks in May, 2019
Where
– Fuzhou, Fujian, China with a brief trip to Beijing.
Available Funding
– The baseline program fee is $3900 CAD. The first 15 applicants will receive $1000 funding from the Dal AC International office and there is a possibility of receiving additional financial support through the International Centre in Halifax. The cost might come to less then $2000, if you secure funding from both sources. Contact Jafar for other funding options.

Required Major/Year – Students can be in any major or class year but must be returning to Dalhousie for at least one term following this course.

Internships Abroad(Fully Funded)

Agricultural Transformation Through Stronger Vocational Education (ATTSVE) Internship in Ethiopia:

Description - The Agricultural Transformation Through Stronger Vocational Education (ATTSVE) project is designed to enhance the capacity of the Ethiopian ATVET (Agricultural college) system to prepare skilled, competent technical graduates. Interns will travel to Ethiopia with this project where we can help you develop a placement based on your interests. Internships can be for course credit, either a special topics course in any relevant subject with a department supervisor (International office will help you find a relevant supervisor), conducting Honours research, as a work placement, or non credit options.

When – 6-8 weeks during May – June 2019

Where – Interns will be based in Ethiopia’s capital city of Addis Ababa in furnished accommodations with visits to 1-4 agricultural colleges in different parts of Ethiopia. At colleges, interns will stay in hotel accommodations.

Available Funding – The ATTSVE Internship is fully funded.

Required Major/Year – Interns can be in any major or class year but must be returning to Dalhousie for at least one term following the internship.

Uganda Skills Development Project (USDP) Internship in Uganda:

Description – The USDP project is a ‘twinning’ collaboration with Bukalasa Agricultural College (BAC), an Agricultural Technical Vocational Education and Training (ATVET) institute. Dal AC is working closely with BAC and industry partners to develop new competency-based (CBET) curriculum focused on hands-on skills. Internships can be for course credit, either a special topics course in any relevant subject with a department supervisor, conducting Honours research, as a work placement, or non credit options.

When – 6-8 weeks from mid-June to mid-August, 2019

Where –  Internships will take place at Bukalasa Agricultural College, about 40 km outside of the capital city of Kampala, Uganda. Interns will be housed in the recently renovated guest house in furnished accommodations with air conditioning.

Available Funding – The USDP internship is fully funded.

Required Major/Year – Interns can be in any major or class year but must be returning to Dalhousie for at least one term following the internship.

Dal AC Ambassador Program at Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University (FAFU) in China:

Description – The International Office is recruiting two Dal AC ambassadors who will represent our campus at Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University (FAFU) this summer. It is a week long program and candidates need to be ready to share their experiences as Dal AC students and answer any questions while promoting the Dalhousie Faculty of Agriculture to FAFU students.

When – 1 week in late April, 2019.

Where – Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University (FAFU), Fuzhou, China

Available Funding – The Dal AC Ambassadors program is fully funded.

Required Major/Year – Ambassadors can be in any major or class year but must be returning to Dalhousie for at least one term following the trip.

Queen Elizabeth Scholars (QES) Internship in Saint Vincent & the Grenadines:

Description – In partnership with Saint Vincent & the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC), students will complete an internship focusing on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) development in agri-business and entrepreneurship to improve youth access to agriculture and food security programs. Students will learn about challenges facing Saint Vincent’s agriculture industry while experiencing a cross-cultural exchange in the Caribbean.

When – Summer, 2019

Where – Saint Vincent & the Grenadines

Available Funding – Stipend of $6000.00 per student.

Required Major/Year – 3rd or 4th year Agricultural Business or International Food Business students returning to Dalhousie for at least one term following the internship.

Exchange Programs (Partially Funded)

January 31st, 2019 is the deadline for the exchange programs. You can study in more than 50 universities in 30+ countries all over the world, including Australian and European countries. Contact Jafar as soon as possible if you want to know more about the exchange program or if you want to apply. Financial aid is available based on financial need.
