Building Cultural Competence Workshop

(Maximum 15 participants per workshop)

General information:

This workshop is geared for anyone who works with persons (students, staff, co-workers, faculty, community members) of diverse cultural backgrounds and wants to improve their understanding of the complexity of these daily interactions. The structure of the sessions will include some formal presentation plus interactive opportunity to share experiences in both small and large group setting. Held in cooperation with Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia (ISANS). www.isans.ca

Building Cultural Competence Half day session – Part One

Wednesday February 4th – 1 to 4:30 pm

1.       Immigration Overview.

2.       Understanding the experience of leaving and arriving in a new community.

3.       What is culture, cultural competence and how does it affects our behavior?

4.       Bias and stereotypes and becoming bias aware. 

Building Cultural Competence Half day session – Part Two – deeper exploration

Tuesday March 10th - 1 to 4:30 pm

1.       Review previous half day session.

2.       Explore cultural norms and working with cultural difference.
