Dr. Normal Goodyear's Horticultural Therapy course laboaratory section recently produced artwork related to horticultural therapy.
The lab is very much experience focussed, including role play as client or Horticultural Therapists. In addition, the students do get to work with two real client groups, seniors and children.
The artwork, currently on display in the Plant Science hallway, is particularly focussed on the students as clients, but also giving them experience with developing activities that include non-living plants. This particular activity is one that encourages creativity – all the students despite their misgivings as ‘artist’ do produce very striking pieces of work.
In a real world setting the outcome could range from fine motor skills, to developing cognition, developing self-esteem, patience, creativity, etc. Very versatile, but also fun.
