Posted by Jaq-Lin Larder on November 25, 2019 in Research Funding

The New Frontiers in Research Fund (NFRF) has made available a draft overview [PDF - 200 KB] of the upcoming Transformation stream. “The objective of the Transformation stream is to support large-scale, Canadian-led interdisciplinary research projects that address a major challenge with the potential to realize real and lasting change.”

Researchers interested in applying should contact their Dean/Associate Dean Research as soon as possible.

Grants will be between $2,000,000 and $4,000,000 per year (including 25% indirect costs) for up to six years.

Projects will be assessed based on the following five selection criteria:

  1. Interdisciplinarity,
  2. Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and Early Career Researchers,
  3. High Risk,
  4. High Reward, and
  5. Feasibility.

The Nominated Principal Investigator should be “the most appropriate Canadian researcher to lead an interdisciplinary project of this scale” and the team should consist of experts from any sector “to ensure that all required sectors and disciplines are represented in the team and to provide an integrated interdisciplinary – and if applicable intersectoral – approach to the project.”

The Transformation stream is a 3-step competition:
Notice of Intent – February 5, 2020
Letter of Intent – April 15, 2020
Full Application – November 18, 2020

Internal deadlines for each step will be established at a later date.
