Transition from ACENET Clusters Has Begun

Posted by Suman Jha on October 10, 2017 in Announcements

Users of ACENET’s Mahone cluster are beginning to migrate their data and get set up on one of Compute Canada’s new state-of-the art systems. The process will be complete by November 15th.

As a reminder, the target dates by which users should be prepared to leave each system are as follows:

       Mahone          November 15th, 2017
       Fundy             November 31st, 2017
       Placentia        January 31st, 2018
       Glooscap        February 28th, 2018

Some of these transfers involve large files, and the process of installing and testing software on a new cluster can take time, so we’re staggering the dates to make it easier for everyone.

To facilitate the efficient transfer of data to the new systems, Globus endpoints will be available for all ACENET clusters. See the ACENET Wiki for the endpoint information for each cluster.

As the target date for each cluster approaches we will communicate with its users, providing instructions and resources for migration. There will be at least one month provided to complete the migration.

However, there is no need to wait! Anyone wishing to begin using the new national clusters immediately is encouraged to do so. Check out our Wiki for further information.

There is also lots of training available on using Cedar and Graham. Just refer to our training page

Support throughout and following the transition process will be handled via support@ace-net.ca.  We are also offering online Office Hours through the ACENET Office Hours Google Hangout.  These are currently scheduled for:
       Tuesdays, 10:00-11:00am Atlantic time
       Wednesdays, 11:00am-12:00pm Atlantic time

No registration is required. Simply drop in if you have a question. Please check the ACENET Wiki for updates to hours.

While this new national infrastructure is not located in Atlantic Canada, ACENET will continue to be the primary support organization for research groups in Atlantic Canada, providing training, research consulting, and troubleshooting. Reach out to your local team, or contact us at support@ace-net.ca.
