Indigenous Community Corrections Initiative

Posted by Suman Jha on October 10, 2017 in Research Funding

Dear Colleagues:

Public Safety Canada is pleased to announce the launch of a national Call for Proposals under the Indigenous Community Corrections Initiative (ICCI).

Budget 2017 provided $10M over five years to expand Public Safety’s Indigenous Community Corrections Initiative to support Indigenous communities’ capacity to rehabilitate and reintegrate Indigenous offenders. This initiative aims to help reverse the over-representation of Indigenous people in Canada’s correctional institutions and support the healing and rehabilitation of Indigenous offenders.

The Indigenous Community Corrections Initiative will provide contribution funding to March 31, 2022 to approved projects to develop tailored approaches that are responsive to the concerns, priorities and unique circumstances of Indigenous people. The objectives of the Initiative are:
1.            To support the development of community-based alternatives to incarceration; and/or
2.            To provide community-based reintegration support.

The Call for Proposals is open from October 4, 2017 until 11:59 p.m. (EST) November 20, 2017.
