New pilot funding opportunity through the Research Tools and Instruments initiative

Posted by Suman Jha on September 12, 2016 in Research Funding

NSERC is introducing a new pilot funding opportunity to its Research Tools and Instruments (RTI) initiative. The Operations and Maintenance Support to Research Facilities funding opportunity aims to facilitate access for Canadian university researchers in the natural sciences and engineering to regional and national research facilities in Canada by contributing to their operations and maintenance costs.

Funding opportunity details
This new funding opportunity has been launched in time for the 2017 Research Tools and Instruments competition. Grants will help regional and national Canadian research facilities cover their operations and maintenance costs for one or two years, with contributions of up to $150,000 per year. The budget planned for this funding opportunity is $2 million, for a total of 10 to 20 awards.

The number of applications submitted to this funding opportunity is not restricted by NSERC’s university quotas set for the RTI program. Researchers will submit an application to the RTI program and follow specific instructions to apply for the Operations and Maintenance Support to Research Facilities funding opportunity. Applications will be assessed by a multi-disciplinary selection committee.
