Call for proposals on Forced Displacement

Posted by Suman Jha on June 15, 2016 in Research Funding

The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) of the United Kingdom, in collaboration with the UK’s Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), are launching a call for innovative, interdisciplinary projects focusing on the experiences of the forced displaced (both internationally and internally) whether due to poverty, war, conflict, persecution or human rights violations. This call explicitly recognises the global and protracted nature of people displacement in the modern age, and takes a longer-term, cross-cultural and global look at the experiences of, and challenges presented by, forced displacement.

Funding is available for innovative, interdisciplinary proposals of up to £300,000, for 6-24 months’ duration. Applicants are required to clearly demonstrate the interdisciplinary nature of their proposed work. It is a requirement that projects include a combination of social science and arts and humanities expertise and approaches.

Note that proposals must be led and submitted by institutions in the United Kingdom, but Canadian researchers are eligible to participate (and can be funded) as co-investigators.

Full details and links to the guidelines can be found here.

Interested faculty members at Dalhousie, with links to an eligible UK institution, are asked to contact the International Research Facilitator in Dalhousie Research Services (jennifer.morawiecki@dal.ca) for more information and support in participating in an application.

Deadline: 20 July 2016
