Adventus would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season and a very productive new year!
Before the holidays get into full swing, Adventus wanted to send another reminder that the next NSERC Idea to Innovation grant application deadline is Friday January 8, 2016.
Adventus recently met with NSERC representatives and learned 3 things about the NSERC I2I program that they would like to share:
1. Idea to Innovation is still well funded at this time of year - as we approach the last few months of the government fiscal year, the program has sufficient budget to ensures most good ideas can receive support.
2. Market assessments have improved the quality of Phase 1 applications - the Market Assessment grants were introduced to the program as a pilot a few years back to help researchers gain insights into the commercial potential of their innovations, which has also translated into market intelligence to support the new venture and more robust Phase 1 grant applications (although there is no formal tracking of Phase 1 approval rates with or without a Market Assessment conducted in advance).
3. Review Panels value the perspectives of potential customers and industry stakeholders - NSERC's review panel members who approve I2I applications have indicated they take a keen interest in the opinions expressed about the subject technology by potential customers and 3rd parties. The industry feedback and the recommendations of the consultants are two key elements they are looking for in the Market Assessments.
If there are any projects at your institution being considered for the I2I program that require a market research quote in support of a Market Assessment application, please contact Michael Van Belle or Gary Svoboda soon to request an Adventus proposal that will answer the commercialization questions related to the specific technology or innovation. Adventus' experience is that most of what they need to write their I2I Market Assessment proposal to you can be achieved in a phone call with you.
To date, 93% of Adventus proposals that have been submitted for NSERC I2I Market Assessment applications have been approved.
You can find their contact information below and on the Adventus website along with a video that allows you to hear from Gary and Michael directly as well as some of their past clients.
