Atlantic Facilities and Research Equipment Database (AFRED)

Posted by Michelle Wood on December 9, 2013 in Announcements

Science Atlantic would like to include you in the launch of the Atlantic Facilities and Research Equipment Database (AFRED).This initiative is supported by the Deans of Science in the Atlantic provinces, including Dean Chris Moore of Dalhousie University. If you are unable to contribute a facility to this inventory, please forward this messagel to anyone who may have a facility to submit.

What is AFRED?
AFRED is an online, searchable inventory created to help connect researchers to specialized research facilities and equipment in the Atlantic region. AFRED is designed to capture the availability of these facilities in order to increase opportunities for their use.

How will I benefit from AFRED?
AFRED has the potential to benefit your department by connecting external researchers with you to negotiate use of the surplus capacity of your equipment. Making this information accessible will allow the potential of additional cash flow for your facility as well as enable you to make potential new research connections.

How does it Work?
AFRED’s records are created by individuals like you. Once approved, the records are available online through AFRED’s search feature which can be accessed by researchers, industry, and other interested parties. Your contact information is included in the record so potential users can contact you directly.

What can I do to get Started?
It takes as little as five minutes for you to create an entry listing the relevant facilities and equipment that you manage. If you haven't already included your equipment in this database, click here to go to the “Add a Record” page.

Who is Science Atlantic?
Science Atlantic is an association of 17 post-secondary institutions in Atlantic Canada with a mandate to connect science education and research. AFRED is a project of the Science Atlantic Research Working Group, a subcommittee of Deans and researchers who work to address science and research issues of regional interest.

If you are looking for more information, or unsure whether your facility would be suitable for the database, please contact Science Atlantic’s AFRED representative, Erik Naylor, at erik@scienceatlantic.ca
