Lunar New Year
Lunar New Year marks the beginning of the new year based on the lunar calendar. Its earliest origins come from China, where it has been celebrated for thousands of years, and it continues to be one of the most important holidays in Chinese culture. Today, it is widely celebrated by communities around the world, including in China, Vietnam (Tết), Korea (Seollal), Singapore, and Malaysia, as well as by global diaspora communities.
While traditions vary, the celebration often centres on family, reflection, renewal, and wishes for good fortune in the year ahead. This year, Lunar New Year will take place on February 17. The International Centre will be celebrating the Year of the Horse with events leading up to the New Year for everyone to enjoy!
