A growing understanding

We have five specialized research units operating in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics. Between them, they’re tackling projects like:

  • cardiac electrophysiology and arrhythmias
  • computational modeling of cardiac electrophysiology
  • role of orexigenic hormone ghrelin in insulin resistance and obesity
  • feeding and hormonal abnormalities in Alzheimer's mice models
  • molecular analysis of cystic fibrosis
  • growth factors, tumour suppressors and cancer
  • mechanisms of synaptic transmission and plasticity

  • hormones and behaviour

  • role of neuropeptide VIP in respiratory diseases
  • drug development for the treatment of cystic fibrosis
