About
Tyler Sack is the inaugural Director of Research at the Deveau Institute for Indigenous Governance and Social Justice at St. Francis Xavier University. Prior to that he had worked for the Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq in multiple senior leadership roles including Director of Governance and later the Director of Aquatic Resources and Fisheries Management.
Tyler grew up in Sipekne’katik and is registered with Membertou First Nation, he considers both communities his home. He has been part of the White Eagle Sundance in Elsipogtog since 2009.
Tyler earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Anthropology from Saint Mary’s University and a Master of Arts in Sociology from the University of Guelph. He is an alumnus of the Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference (2022), and the Public Policy Forum’s Action Canada Fellowship (2024-25).
