Fieldwork Fall 2023
From the School of Occupational Therapy Fieldwork Team
What an incredible year of fieldwork we’ve had! Thanks to an incredible response from our practice community, we have met the recruitment target for our first (January) placement block ahead of schedule! We truly appreciate your dedication to our learners and our profession. Many thanks to our provincial fieldwork coordinators, practice leads and therapists. Thanks also to our provincial societies (NSSOT, NLAOT, PEIOTS, NBAOT) for sharing our placement recruitment messaging!
This year, we wanted to share where our students are gaining their critical and valuable fieldwork experience. As you can see, more than 75% of the student placements were in Hospital/Regional Health Care Centres throughout the Atlantic Canadian Provinces, with the remaining 25% with community-based primary health care, long-term care, private practice, and worker-related services. Every student had the opportunity to work directly with clients and impact their occupations, both in-person and often via telehealth.
Thank you to each and every one of you for your contribution to the students learning, the School’s program, and our profession’s sustainability. We could not do it without you. Please note that we are still recruiting for our remaining 2024 placement blocks, as follows:
OCCU 6222 (March 4th – April 26th, 2024; currently 30 / 69 required placements)
OCCU 5222 (May 6th – June 28th, 2024; currently 20 / 66 required placements)
If you are interested in offering a placement for either of the above blocks, please be in touch with Jonathan Harris (Jonathan.Harris@dal.ca) , who can navigate region-specific processes for placement recruitment with the appropriate contact person in your organization/regional health authority.
