Bio:
Alexander Brandt's research centers around improving the performance, quality, maintainability, usability, and capability of software. His research focuses on the engineering and optimization of scientific and data-intensive computing on workstations and small, local clusters. This work takes a hardware-centric viewpoint to understanding and developing high-performance software with current computing resources (rather than waiting for the next generation of faster processors).

A particular focus of Alex's research is proving tools and techniques which enable scientists, mathematicians, and other end-users to more easily and effectively exploit their local hardware and achieve high-performance. This requires parallel algorithms, heterogeneous computing, software engineering, and UI/UX design. Applications of interest include simulation, gaming, graphics, physics and astronomy.
