Theoretical/Modelling projects

  • Research
  • New Li-ion electrode materials
  • Advanced diagnostics to determine Li-ion cell failure mechanisms
  • How do electrolyte additives work?
  • Fundamental studies of Safety of Na-ion and Li-ion batteries
  • Theoretical/Modelling projects
    • First-principles studies of the reaction of Li with amorphous Si
    • Monte carlo studies of order-disorder transitions in layered oxides
    • Software development
  • Animations

Although this group is mainly experimental in focus, we do build and automate most of our own equipment which requires some students with programming and electronics knowledge.  Additionally, theoretically inclined students are encouraged to use theory (of various types) to model and understand their experimental results.

Research Topics

  • First-principles studies of the reaction of Li with amorphous Si
  • Monte carlo studies of order-disorder transitions in layered oxides
  • Software development
