Healthy Balance Research Program Scholarship Award Winners

 
Cyndi Brannen:
Awarded a Post Doctoral Fellow with the Healthy Balance Research Program from June 1, 2004 until May 31, 2006. Her primary research focused on women's health and caregiving with implications for public policy. Dr. Brannen received her doctorate from the University of New Brunswick in 2005. Her thesis was on the importance of group relationships for an individual's well-being. Her past research focused on the connections between close relationships and well-being.

Kathy Petite: Degree in Family Studies and Gerontology at Mount Saint Vincent University; won a one-year scholarship and completed a project entitled Tinker, Tailor! Soldier, Sailor! Mother?: Making sense of the competing institutions of motherhood and the military, under the supervision of Deborah Norris. Academic year 2005 - 2006.

Glenda Hawkins: Masters of Arts, Family Studies and Gerontology at Mount Saint Vincent University; won a two-year scholarship and completed a project entitled Patterns and predictors of home care utilization: Analyzing changes over a five year period (1996 - 2001), under the supervision of Dr. Janice Keefe. Academic years 2003 - 2004 & 2004 - 2005.

Christine Kennedy: Master of Arts, Family Studies and Gerontology at Mount Saint Vincent University; won a one-year scholarship and completed a project entitled Service utilization among adults with disabilities and seniors; Making a case for self-managed care, under the supervision of Dr. Janice Keefe. Academic year 2003 - 2004.

Cortleigh Vowels: Masters of Science, Community Health and Epidemiology at Dalhousie University; won a one-year scholarship and completed a project entitled Children's experiences of living with and caring for parents with multiple sclerosis, under the supervision of Dr. Eric Mykhalovskiy. Academic year 2003 - 2004.

Marlie Manning: Masters in Family Studies and Gerontology at Mount Saint Vincent University; won a two-year scholarship and completed a project entitled Three accounts of Home Care Policy History: 1986-2001: Nova Scotia, Manitoba, and Alberta, under the supervision of Dr. Janice Keefe. Academic years 2002 - 2003 & 2003 - 2004.

Kate Hemeon: Masters in Family Studies and Gerontology at Mount Saint Vincent University; won a one-year scholarship and completed a project entitled The experience of anticipatory grief and loss in spousal caregivers of persons with Alzheimer disease, under the supervision of Dr. Janice Keefe. Academic year 2002 - 2003.
