Fiona McAdam, M.S.W.

Fiona has worked as a Same-Day Counselor at Dalhousie since 2017. She completed her BA at Mount Allison, her BSW at McGill, and her MSW at Dalhousie. 

Fiona brings over 30 years of accumulated training and experience to her work. She has worked in a hospital and in schools in Quebec for ten years. She then worked and did research in South Africa and Fiji for several years, followed by fifteen years working as a therapist at Phoenix Youth Programs in Halifax.

Fiona a passionate lifelong learner, and her integrative approach to practice is primarily informed by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Emotion-focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.

At Dalhousie, Fiona strives to create a warm, welcoming, compassionate, and culturally responsive space where students feel heard, understood, and supported; where their unique experiences, values, and preferences are centered. 

In her free time, she loves time with family, friends, and her silly Pug. She loves traveling and hiking, music, reading, and long meandering conversations.
