Jason Chatman, PhD Registered Psychologist

Dr. Jason Chatman has been working as a Registered Psychologist since 2007 in hospital, private practice, and university settings. While he has been teaching part-time at Dalhousie University since 2009, he became a counsellor here in 2021. He works with students individually and in groups, and by providing advocacy wherever possible.

Dr. Chatman works from a person-centered approach to meet his students where they are and strives to understand their unique context in tailoring his therapeutic style. He draws upon elements of CBT, ACT, DBT, and EFT when helping students facing a variety of issues and challenges. As a Black man who grew up experiencing poverty, he understands both the challenges faced by many marginalized students as well as the privileges many possess. He works hard to approach each student individually and without judgement to help them meet their potential here at Dal.

Originally from Ontario, he spent 7 years in Southern California completing his PhD, internship, and post-doc before moving back to Canada and settling in Halifax, which he has made home for the past 15 years. In his free time, he enjoys oil painting, spending time with friends, travelling, reading, and watching movies (especially scary ones).
