In October, the Dalhousie Faculty of Dentistry celebrated excellence at its 2025 Dalhousie Dentistry Alumni Awards.
We are proud to honour inspiring grads plus two community changemakers who are making a difference in the dental profession.
Celebrating emerging leaders
Early Career Alumni Award recipient Dr. Lindsay James (DDS’19) has been an invaluable consultant for our faculty and a key member of the IWK pediatric dental team. By leading the development of a surgicentre and specialized program to enhance dental care access for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, she continues to demonstrate her dedication to these populations and her commitment to instilling the same values in our students.
Early Career Alumni Award recipient and an inspiration for her hygiene class, Brooke Kinden (DDH’15) has broken the traditional mold, starting her own independent hygiene office in 2023. She saw a gap that needed to be filled in her hometown and rose to the occasion. In addition to preventative hygiene services, Kinden offers mobile services and long-term care home visits for seniors.
Early Career Alumni Award recipient and recognized as a pioneer in endo dynamic navigation, Dr. Bobby Nadeau (DDS’15) has been a steadfast advocate for minimally invasive endodontics since his days at Dal. He played a key role in the development and Health Canada approval of Navident and also spearheaded the creation of a Dentsight AR.
Recognizing distinguished alumni leading and elevating the profession
Outstanding Alumni Award recipient and a trailblazer in Canadian dentistry, Dr. Heather Carr (DDS’88) led the CDA during the launch of the Canadian Dental Care Plan, guiding the profession through its early challenges. She has been recognized with the Philip S. Christie Award and holds fellowships in the International College of Dentists, American College of Dentists, and Pierre Fauchard Academy.
Outstanding Alumni Award recipient and a dedicated educator and leader, Dr. Terrie Logue (DDS’85) has advanced the dental professional through decades of teaching and service. As a faculty member at Dal, she earned the Graduation Periodontics Clinical Teaching Award and helped launch the inaugural Women In Dentistry Circle to support and connect women in the profession. A past president of both the NSDA and the Canadian Academy of Periodontics, she continues to inspire through her mentorship and community involvement.
Outstanding Alumni Award recipient and a dedicated teacher and mentor, Dr. Jennifer MacLellan (DDS’94) leads by example in the Dal and IWK clinics, North Preston outreach program, and volunteer initiatives. A part president of both the NSDA and the Canadian Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. MacLellan is admired for instilling strong ethics, companion and excellence in her students.
Outstanding Alumni Award recipient and past president of the NLDA, Dr. Michelle Zwicker (DDS’00) guided her colleagues through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and continues to serve as Provincial Dental Consultant, advising government on dental policy and budgeting. Through her clinic, she supports local athletic programs and food security efforts in Newfoundland. Dr. Zwicker embodies leadership in both dentistry and service to others.
Friends of Dal Dentistry
As Dentalcorp Director of Partnerships, Cory Sears has been an important friend of Dal Dentistry for 18 years. Supporting the development of our implant program and donating over $100,000 for our Sim Lab and legendary annual events including the Harold Brogan Golf Tournament.
As Healthy Athletics Director at N.S. Special Olympics, Rachel Skanes has significantly transformed the Healthy Athletes program in Nova Scotia, including the development of Special Smiles. The Special Smiles dental screenings have not only provided invaluable volunteer experiences for our students, but also have raised awareness about the oral health barriers for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
