About

WWF-Canada, a leader in marine conservation, and Dalhousie, Canada’s Ocean University, have joined forces to establish A Conservation Legacy for Oceans—a unique partnership that will forge real change for the future of our waters. A generous and innovative gift from Donald Sobey catalyzed this unique collaboration. The Sobey Fund for Oceans is an endowment that will provide support for A Conservation Legacy for Oceans, specifically through the funding of scholarships and work placements. It is on this strong base that we aspire to build greater investment in the broader work of our partnership and in the range of activities we will lead under this banner of work.

Working together for results

Each year, Dalhousie and WWF-Canada will bring together the best experts across academia and conservation, charting a course to achieve shared goals. The collaboration will focus on:

  • Providing financial support for students through WWF-Canada internships and work placements

Inspiring excellence in marine conservation achieved by:

  • Incentivizing academic excellence with a student marine conservation award program

Enhancing awareness and thought leadership achieved by:

  • Sponsoring a bi-annual lecture series that features inspirational ocean leaders
  • Sponsoring a student-organized annual public conference
