» Go to news mainTrudeau Announces the Dissolution of INAC and Introduces Two New Ministries
On 28 August 2017, the Trudeau Government announced that the department of Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada will be dissolved and replaced with two new departments: The Department of Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs, and the Department of Indigenous Services. This process will take many steps to complete, the first of which being the introduction of two new ministers that will work within complementary objectives and goals. The Minister of the Department of Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs is the honourable Carolyn Bennett (formerly the Minister of Indigenous and Norther Affairs Canada). The Minister of the Department of Indigenous Services is the honourable Jane Philpott (formerly the Minister of Health Services). The Government hopes that this change to the governmental structure will help to change the nation-to-nation relationship. Read the full statement.
