Posted by Laura Addicott on April 4, 2016 in News

On April 22th, 2016, Amber Giles presented her graduate work at the DFO Gulf Region Office in Moncton, NB. Amber’s research entitled “Improving the eel fishery through the incorporation of Indigenous Knowledge Systems into policy level decision making- A case study, Eskasoni First Nation” had a strong focus on the Species at Risk process for the assessment of the American eel. The lead region for this assessment is the Gulf, and those involved were in attendance. The presentation generated an open conversation about the incorporation of Indigenous Knowledge Systems and how to overcome barriers.
