DAL ORIGINALS

George Munro’s role in keeping Dalhousie’s doors open isn’t hyperbole. In the 1870s, Dal was in dire financial straits, at risk of closure. Munro, a New York-based publisher, heard about the university's “desperate” state and offered to fund a new chair in Physics — and he didn't stop there. His generosity inspired Dalhousie's annual February holiday, a continued reminder of the important role philanthropy has played in Dal’s 200-year history.
