You cannot apply to co-op until you have applied to Dalhousie, which should be done nine months before your first work term. Having a ‘placement’ in an engineering program does not constitute admission to Dalhousie, which is a separate step that all associated university students must complete.

How to apply

Step 1: Ensure that you have applied as a visiting student:

This visiting application is different from the application for full admission in the fall; you will still need to register separately for full admission. The application fee for visiting status is waived, but please note that an application fee will be charged for your full admission to engineering in the fall.

When you apply as a visiting student, you will be admitted to Dalhousie University once our Registrar's Office receives your marks from your university.

Below are the instructions to apply for “Visiting Student” status at Dalhousie to do the online Co-op orientation course (if you have yet to apply):

  • Apply online for visiting student status.
  • You must complete the application type: "Dal Undergraduate Group A." This is the same application type you will use/used when applying to Engineering for the Fall term.
  • In the Admission Type section you must select your admission type as: “Visiting Student.”
  • In the Planned Course of Study section you must select: “Visiting Student – Requires Letter of Permission” as your first-choice program.

Step 2: Register for the mandatory online Co-op Orientation Course:

Early June: register for the online Co-op Orientation Course (ENGI 8890) via Dal Online.
