Update to our Local Government Programming

Thank you for your interest in the Local Government program. We are in the midst of reviewing and updating the certificate concentrations to ensure that they are timely, responsive, and cover the most important knowledge and skills required to be successful in the field. The goal of this project is to improve the overall learner experience, and to include a microcredential in each course, which is a sharable virtual object that allows learners to demonstrate their newly-earned skills.

We are currently accepting registrations into the Associate Certificate in Local Government, and our new concentrations will start becoming available in 2022. Please note that the Associate Certificate will be a prerequisite for all concentrations and is the entry-level certificate for the Local Government Program. On its own, it would be beneficial for those who work in the technical fields of local government to gain a working knowledge of the history, organization, challenges, and opportunities for local government.

We appreciate your patience, as not all of our courses will be available each term. Here is a list of upcoming courses for the Associate Certificate:

Thank you for your ongoing interest in our courses and if you have any questions, please contact our Student Services team at openlearning@dal.ca. We look forward to welcoming you into our new program in 2022!

Important Notice re: NACLAA Certificates

A detailed review of our services has shown that the NACLAA Certificates are no longer meeting our collective needs – the organization’s or our learners. As a result, we’re discontinuing these certificates.  Effective immediately, no new enrollments will be accepted into these certificates.

If you are currently working on completing one of the local government and/or NACLAA certificates, you will be given the opportunity to complete it within a specific timeframe or to transfer to a new certificate. Please contact our Program Administrator, Hilary Dominey (hilary.dominey@dal.ca), to discuss your options.
